CRCL Complaint: Weaponization of Medical Care to Suppress First Amendment-Protected Activity at Mesa Verde and Golden State ICE Detention Facilities
Sent via email on September 24, 2024 to DHS CRCL
Four people in immigration detention filed a federal complaint to the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties (CRCL) exposing the weaponization of medical care to suppress First Amendment-protected activity at two Central Valley immigrant detention centers: Mesa Verde ICE Detention Facility (Mesa Verde) and Golden State Annex ICE Detention Facility (Golden State). Prior to the filing of this complaint, disturbing revelations emerged of sexual and gender-based abuse, physical and psychological violence, and deprivation of basic necessities like water and toilet paper at the facilities.

The complaint was filed on behalf of the immigrants by the California Collaborative for Immigrant Justice and Asian Law Caucus.
